Ms. Whelan's practice concentrates primarily on the defense of complex asbestos, toxic tort, and product liability cases in Massachusetts and Rhode Island. She serves as the firm's co-managing partner of the Boston and Providence offices. Ms. Whelan represents a wide variety of companies locally as well as serving as National Coordinating Counsel in the asbestos litigation. As National Coordinating Counsel, she works closely with a variety of corporate and expert witnesses to prepare cohesive litigation defense strategies.
She has also served as the defendants' liaison counsel for the asbestos litigation in the State of Rhode Island for which she communicated directly with all plaintiffs' counsel, defendants' counsel and the justice assigned to all asbestos cases to ensure proper organization of the litigation and to address/resolve multiple types issues. As defendants' liaison counsel she also served as defendants' representative at all hearings, matters and motions pertaining to all defendants in the litigation.
Ms. Whelan received her undergraduate degree from the University of Michigan - Ann Arbor in 1991 and her law degree from Suffolk University, cum laude, in 1995. She is admitted to practice before the state and federal courts of Massachusetts and Rhode Island. She is a member of the Massachusetts Bar Association, Rhode Island Bar Association and Defense Research Institute.
