Craig Waksler
ASSISTANT MANAGING PARTNER & DIRECTOR NEW ENGLAND OPERATIONS
Mr. Waksler's practice concentrates primarily on the defense of asbestos, toxic tort, environmental, product liability, dram shop, and insurance coverage cases both in Massachusetts and Rhode Island, as well as nationally. Mr. Waksler is the firm’s assistant managing partner and director of the firm’s New England Operations, where he, along with partner Jennifer Whelan, oversees McGivney & Kluger’s three New England offices, located in Boston, MA, Providence, RI and Hartford, CT.
In connection with his asbestos work, Mr. Waksler is National Coordinating Counsel for an international boiler company. He also represents a large number of asbestos defendants in Massachusetts and Rhode Island, ranging from Fortune 500 manufacturing companies to small supply houses, including companies that manufacture/sell fluid sealing products, pumps, valves, boilers, brakes and marine engines. Mr. Waksler also has experience in asbestos premise liability cases. Numerous clients employ Mr. Waksler to represent their interests on a national basis, as he assists them with their national trial, discovery and settlement strategies. Mr. Waksler was counsel of record for two of the defendants in the Rhode Island Supreme Court forum non conveniens Kedy decision, which resulted in the dismissal of a large number of asbestos cases that had no nexus to Rhode Island and the adoption of forum non conveniens as a doctrine in Rhode Island. He also was co-counsel for a defendant in the Balthazar trial in 2007, which resulted in a defense verdict. Balthazar was the first Massachusetts asbestos case to try to verdict in over 10 years. Mr. Waksler has been involved in numerous other asbestos trials that have resolved prior to verdict. Mr. Waksler has lectured extensively on a wide array of asbestos topics for both the firm’s clients and at national seminars.
Mr. Waksler is also an experienced litigator, particularly in the areas of environmental pollution, dram shop, insurance coverage, consumer protection, premises liability, medical malpractice, and civil rights. In addition, Mr. Waksler has significant experience in coverage matters and has provided coverage advice to many of the leading domestic insurance companies. Mr. Waksler frequently provides lectures to the insurance companies he represents on a variety of coverage and litigation matters. In addition, he is asked to speak at local and national lawyer seminars on a wide array of litigation matters, and has been a speaker at the annual meeting of the Massachusetts Chapter of the DRI in both 2009 and 2010.
Mr. Waksler received his undergraduate degree from Syracuse University, cum laude, in 1990, and graduated from the Northeastern School of Law in 1993. He is admitted to practice before the state and federal courts of both Massachusetts and Rhode Island. Mr. Waksler has appeared in Courts throughout the country representing clients including U.S. District Court, District of Minnesota; U.S. District Court, District of New Hampshire; U.S. District Court, District of New Jersey; U.S. District Court, Eastern District of Pennsylvania; and U.S. District Court, District of Utah. In addition, Mr. Waksler has appeared before state courts in Connecticut, Delaware, Minnesota, New Hampshire, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, and Utah.
He is a member of the Rhode Island Bar Association and the DRI. In addition, Mr. Waksler has been recognized by his peers for the past four years as a member of the “Massachusetts Super Lawyers” list for 2008, 2009, 2010 and 2011, having been previously named a “Rising Star” in 2005. He has also been listed in various other Super Lawyer publications, including its Corporate Counsel and New England editions.
Mr. Waksler is very active in his local community as well. He currently serves on the Board of Directors of the Massachusetts Chapter of the DRI. In addition, Mr. Waksler serves on the Zervas School Council which is the advisory board to the school’s principal, and is active in the school’s PTO. He is also the Tennis Chair and Board Member of the Windsor Club, located in Newton, Massachusetts. Additionally, Mr. Waksler volunteers for the Newton South Little League having coached numerous teams over the past several years.
