Tamar Bakhbava

Associate

 

Ms. Bakhbava is an associate in McGivney & Kluger’s Hartford office and is primarily involved in the areas of products liability, toxic torts and general liability defense litigation, including defending claims against manufacturers of commercial and residential machinery and equipment as well as consumer products. She is experienced in complex personal injury matters, including wrongful death, dram shop, gas explosion loss and property damage claims, as well as premises liability and automobile accidents. Ms. Bakhbava is well versed in handling cases from their initial inception to their successful completion, whether involving individuals or legal entities, and she has represented clients in state and federal courts.

Ms. Bakhbava believes in giving back to the legal community. She is currently on the Connecticut Bar Association’s (CBA) House of Delegates (District 12); she is a CBA Presidential Fellow; she is on the executive committee of the Insurance Law Section and also serves as the section’s diversity liaison. Ms. Bakhbava is on the Board of Directors of the Hartford County Bar Association, where she co-chairs the Insurance Law Committee. She is on the Board of Directors of the Connecticut Defense Lawyers Association (CDLA), where she serves on the CLE committee. She is a Barrister in the Oliver Ellsworth Inn of Court. Ms. Bakhbava is a Defense Research Institute (DRI) young lawyer representative for the state of Connecticut.

Ms. Bakhbava obtained her first law degree from Tbilisi IvaneJavakhishvili State University in Tbilisi, Republic of Georgia. She then received her J.D. and LL.M. degrees from the University of Virginia School of Law, where she served as a research assistant to Professors Michal Barzuza and Michael Klarman as well as an Assistant Symposium Director for the J.B. Moore Society of International Law. During law school Ms. Bakhbava spent a summer working at DLA Piper’s Tbilisi office, where she was involved in representing international and domestic corporate entities and financial institutions, dealing with multifaceted and complex issues of cross-border transactional work. She completed the National Trial Advocacy College while a student at the University of Virginia School of Law.

Ms. Bakhbava is admitted to the Connecticut and New York state bars, as well as the U.S. District Court for the District of Connecticut. She speaks the Georgian and Russian languages.
