Carlos Poza
Counsel
Carlos K. Poza was admitted to the California Bar in 1999 and has developed his practice representing developers, builders, architects, engineers, and general contractors. Mr. Poza is frequently retained as primary litigation counsel in complex construction cases throughout California. He represents commercial and residential builders in development, contracting, labor matters, risk management, and complex litigation. In addition to his practice in the construction and professional liability areas, Mr. Poza has counseled clients on employment and labor issues both in advance of and throughout litigation. Prior to being a lawyer, Mr. Poza collaborated on digital systems architecture for content delivery and resource management for Apple Computer, Inc. Based on this background he has been able to counsel technology and product development clients in resolving trademark, copyright, licensing, and trade secret issues. He has assisted clients with investigating, designing and implementing virtual marketplace solutions and assessing online product exposure; evaluating web-based business tort liability; establishing technology licensing models, and resolving IP infringement issues.
Mr. Poza has defended cases before the California Supreme Court, argued successfully before the California Court of Appeals, and tried cases to verdict in three California counties. Mr. Poza is also a regular lecturer for the University of California on topics keyed to risk management and business practices for design professionals. A graduate of San Jose State University, with Bachelor of Science degrees in business administration and electrical engineering, Mr. Poza earned his Juris Doctorate from the Chicago-Kent College of Law. He is a member of the State Bar of California, the American Bar Association, the Bar Association of San Francisco, and California Trial Lawyers Association. He is admitted to practice in all California state courts, the United States District Court for the Northern, Southern and Central Districts of California, and the United States Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit.
