Nancy Giacumbo

Ms. Giacumbo is a partner located in M&K’s Florham Park office. She is an experienced and talented civil defense attorney who has practiced in state and federal courts at both the trial and appellate levels in various jurisdictions. She was admitted to the practice of law in the State of New Jersey and the U.S. District Court, District of New Jersey in 1984 and has been admitted pro hac vice in several jurisdictions throughout the country.

She received a Juris Doctor cum laude from Seton Hall University School of Law in 1984, where she was the recipient of the Italian-American Scholarship, the Centennial Scholarship and the Andrew B. Crummy Scholarship; a post graduate Diploma with distinction from Wadham College, Oxford University, Oxford, England in 1979; and an A.B. cum laude from Douglass College, Rutgers University, in 1977.  Throughout her academic career, she was also awarded the Margaret Denton Wagner Fellowship and a Business & Professional Women's Scholarship.

Ms. Giacumbo began her career in the public sector as a private industry employment and training Planner and as a Technical Assistant for the City of New York, Office of Economic Development, where she assisted manufacturers with all phases of government procurement contracts. During law school, she was employed by Commerce Clearing House as an editor of the Bankruptcy Reporter. Her work product included published head notes, digests, analyses, and report letter items regarding the former Bankruptcy Act, the Bankruptcy Reform Act, federal and state constitutions, statutes, regulations, and decisional law.

Upon graduating law school, Ms. Giacumbo had the distinction and honor of serving as law clerk to the Honorable Reginald Stanton, Assignment Judge of the Superior Court of New Jersey, Morris and Sussex County Vicinage, Chancery Division, General Equity. After her judicial clerkship, she returned to work at Budd Larner, where she had clerked while in law school. In 1988, she joined the firm of Cuyler Burk & Matthews, where she became a Partner.

In 1996, she joined Fireman's Fund Insurance Company ("FFIC") as Trial Counsel in their Special Litigation (Environmental Claims) division. She defended a wide variety of complex environmental, mass tort, product liability, construction defect, errors and omissions, negligence, and commercial lawsuits. She also represented FFIC in large property loss recovery claims and litigation. She successfully completed the FFIC’s Trial Advocacy Institute Program, and was the recipient of many performance and recognition awards while employed by the company. She was chosen by the FFIC Vice President of Legal Services as one of only five staff attorneys in the nation to serve on the company's Legal Services Steering Committee, and was appointed as National Coordinating Counsel of product liability actions pending in multiple federal and state courts.

Ms. Giacumbo's reported decisions include Matter of Kimber Petroleum, 110 N.J. 69 (1988); Grossman v. Club Med Sales, Inc., et al., 273 N.J.Super. 42 (App. Div. 1994); Kuehm v. Hearnen Air Conditioning, et al., 142 N.J. 574 (1995); Cottle v. Independent Bus Garage Co., 144 N.J. 173 (1996); and Roman v. Turner Colours, Inc., 255 A.D.2d 571, 681 N.Y.S.2d 69 (1998). 

On June 28, 2011, Ms. Giacumbo was appointed by the New Jersey Supreme Court to its Committee on the Unauthorized Practice of Law. In the summer of 2011, she was trained by Partners for Women & Justice to represent victims of domestic violence pro bono in restraining order trials in family court. She has served as a civil case Arbitrator in the Superior Court of New Jersey, Morris County, and has taught Business Law at Rutgers University School of Business. She is both a member of the New Jersey State Bar Association and a founding member of its Animal Law Committee.
